BUYER COMPARISON / ECOMMERCE

Shopify alternatives: choose around your Jamaican business.

Compare Shopify, WooCommerce and an enquiry catalogue around payments, daily order work and ownership. An alternative is useful when it resolves a specific constraint, not simply because it has a lower advertised starting price.

Identify why you want an alternative.

Write the constraint that could rule out the current option: an unsuitable payment arrangement, an editing problem, required order handling, the recurring cost or the difficulty of changing providers. If the existing store meets your needs, switching platforms may introduce more work than it removes.

This comparison helps prepare a store quotation. It does not establish that The Absurd Company has approved a particular gateway or that every named integration is available for your business.

Check Jamaican payment eligibility before the theme.

On 25 October 2026, Jamaica is not listed among Shopify Payments supported countries. Shopify directs businesses outside its supported list to third-party payment providers. Shopify Payments and the Shopify store platform are separate decisions; the absence of the former is not proof you cannot use the latter.

Ask the proposed provider about your actual business location, bank account, settlement currency, fees, onboarding and the checkout integration. A local merchant service such as NCB is a research starting point, not proof of a working Shopify or WooCommerce integration. Do not use another country or account details to bypass eligibility.

Compare the operating model.

The table is a shortlist of routes to assess, not a tested performance league table. Recheck the current product and provider details for the intended configuration.

Keep platform, payment and order costs separate.

Request a written cost list covering initial setup, content, platform or hosting, themes and extensions, payment processing, recurring support and staff order handling. Confirm settlement and any currency conversion assumptions with the providers. We do not quote fixed vendor prices here because the right plan and eligible provider are not yet known.

Use one illustrative product with realistic options to discuss availability, delivery or collection, failed payment, cancellation and a return. Agree permitted sandbox tests later; this guide is not an instruction to place a live order.

Plan the exit before migrating.

Shopify documents product CSV export, but a product file alone is not a complete store migration. List products, images, customer and order records, theme work, URLs and external integrations separately. Confirm what can transfer with permission and what must be rebuilt.

For an existing store, preserve useful URLs and define the cutover, paused order handling and recovery plan. Do not move private customer data as part of shopping for a quotation. A new platform should solve the identified constraint while keeping order ownership explicit.

Bring an evidence checklist to the quotation.

This is a requirements-led comparison prepared by The Absurd Company, which offers related services. It uses the linked vendor documentation and practical buying criteria; it is not a hands-on product benchmark, independent provider ranking or promise that a platform fits your site. • Give the reason you are considering an alternative.
  • List representative products, variants and fulfilment rules.
  • Record payment eligibility and integration as pending until verified.
  • Name the people responsible for products, orders, refunds and recovery.
  • Compare the final scope and recurring responsibilities, not only the initial build quote.

Your questions, answered.

What is the best ecommerce platform for a small Jamaican business?

Start with payment eligibility, product and fulfilment requirements, daily operations and maintenance ownership. Shopify, WooCommerce or a quotation catalogue may be worth assessing under different constraints; there is no universal winner here.

Is WooCommerce automatically cheaper than Shopify?

No. Compare hosting, extensions, implementation, maintenance, payment costs and staff time for the same required workflow.

Does a catalogue take online payments?

A quotation catalogue can deliberately stop at an enquiry. Online payment is a separate scope and needs a verified provider arrangement and acceptance evidence.
